FWQ Liquid Cargo Terminal (FWQ LCT)

FWQ Liquid Cargo Terminal (FWQ LCT) has been established at Port Qasim on Build Operate and Transfer (BOT) basis by FELDA WESTBURY QASIM (Pvt) Limited (FWQ). FWQ is a Joint Venture between FELDA of Malaysia and WESTBURY Group of Pakistan.

LCT is the first dedicated Edible Oils Jetty in Private Sector, capable of berthing vessels (Tankers) up to 35,000 DWT carrying liquid cargoes of Edible Oils / Molasses etc.

It is a state-of-the-art Terminal constructed through internationally renowned Marine Contractor – STFA Marine Construction Company of Turkey for Civil and Structural Works besides local Contractors of repute engaged for Mechanical and Electrical Works.

FWQ LCT has commenced operations with effect from 30th March 2009. With the commissioning of FWQ LCT, Pakistan has taken a big jump towards efficient, systematic and hygienic handling of liquid cargo.

Significant importance is attached to FWQ LCT as it adds to the infrastructure development of the Port Qasim. FWQ LCT has contributed in controlling demurrage by quick vessel turnaround time, higher discharge rate and practically no waiting time for vessel berthing.

Port Qasim has become the hub for edible oils import, handling, storage, and refining in Pakistan. Presently, Port Qasim has the pride to handle over 90% of the total import of edible oils into Pakistan.

Terminal/Jetty

The Terminal with a designed capacity of handling 4 million tons of bulk liquid cargo per annum is capable of facilitating vessels up to 35,000 DWT carrying Edible Oils, Molasses, and its derivatives besides other permissible cargoes. The Terminal is connected with all the receiving storage terminals at Port Qasim through common user pipelines laid from Jetty to our strategically located interchanges to facilitate the import of edible oils and fats in Pakistan.

The Terminal comprises of a Jetty along with ancillary structure including loading/discharging elevated platform connected to the shore by a trestle, mooring and breasting dolphins with 2 x fenders, all interconnected by a series of catwalks.

Major components of the Jetty Structure are given below:

Trestle 114 Meters Long
Loading Platform 27.5 Meters x 15 Meters
Breasting Dolphins 2 Nos
Mooring Dolphins 4 Nos
Catwalk 190 Meters Long
Max LOA 210 Mtr
Max Beam 33 Mtr
Max Deadweight Up to 35,000 tons
Present Declared Draft As per PQA Notification

The Loading Platform facilitates connecting Edible Oil/Molasses lines with Ship Manifolds through 03 flexible Hoses. A Marine Crane (Knuckle Boom Type) of 15 Meters boom length and 2 ton lifting capacity is installed on the Elevated Platform for this purpose. The Loading Platform is equipped with Pig Launcher (3 Nos) and compressed air system for Pigging the Edible Oil lines.

Cargo Discharging System

Four (4) common user product pipelines connect the jetty to the interchanges. System details are given below:

PARTICULARS EDIBLE OILS MOLASSES
No. of Pipelines 03 01
Pipeline Capacity (Each) 400 MT/Hr 400 MT/Hr
Sizes of Lines (Dia) 12” NPS 16” NPS
Max. Pressure at Ship Manifold 10 Bar
Lines Pigable Non-Pigable

INTERCHANGE SYSTEMS

Interchangeable system comprise of two (2) operational interchanges from where receiving storage terminals have connected their respective distribution pipelines. Interchanges are strategically located to minimize receiving terminals distance from their respective interchange. This is one of the unique feature of the system and is being done for the first time in Pakistan.

The Interchanges are connected to all storage terminals in the area. Interchange A/B and C are equipped with Overhead Electric Traveling Cranes for quick and efficient switching of connection from one receiving terminal to another along with ancillary facilities.

EXPANSION POTENTIAL

Currently, FWQ LCT is designed to handle all types of Edible Oils and Molasses through separate 03 pipelines. There is provision to lay more pipelines on the trestle for handling edible oils and other bulk liquid products. The interchange system is also designed to cater for the increasing requirements of future bulk liquid product handling at FWQ LCT.  There is a provision for third Interchange System D to meet future requirements
